BASIC 3

So why did we choose to start here?

Smoking used to be the leading cause of death in the United States but has now been surpassed by poor diet and lack of exercise.  Since 1970 Obesity has doubled in the United States.  Obesity can cause heart disease, hypertension, diabetes and many other conditions that lead to a persons decreased wellbeing. On average the cost of healthcare for an obese person is $1,500 more than for someone who maintains a healthy weight.  Lucky 50% of Behaviors that lead to increased healthcare cost are coachable!

That’s why we, at New Normal Lifestyle, suggest the Basic 3.

A 6-month roll out that gets people moving, eating right and aware of their current health status.  The initiatives are…

KNOW YOUR NUMBERS               GET MOVING              MAINTAIN YOUR WEIGHT

The Basic 3 will begin to develop a community of Wellness within your organization.  The penholderparticipation level and engagement will be higher by keeping the initial rollout of the program simple.

The Basic 3 rollout focuses on the entire population of the workforce.  The intention is to work with those at high-risk as well as encourage the low-risk employees to continue with healthy behaviors.

The first 6 months will introduce and educate the workforce on basic behavioral changes.  From here we can rollout programs that will sustain these behavioral changes, increase the number of participants and expand into other high-risk behaviors like smoking and stress.

No more than 3 programs should be implemented at once.  This will allow for people to create their New Normal before taking on another change.  3 programs can be managed and monitored with efficiency.  Data collection will be more accurate and provide a clear analysis of the individual programs.  We can also determine the effect overlapping programs have on each other.  Obstacles can be identified and adjustments made to improve the success rate.

To Introduce a Wellness Program successfully it needs to include activities and programs that are attainable.  People are reluctant to change.  So to improve the level of participation and success the initial rollout needs to be with programs that will excite people to participate.  Create a “Can Do” environment instead of one of intimidation.
